- The popular Mysore silk
The silk type is produced from pure and high-quality mulberry silk. It is recognized for its lustre and soft texture. The variety originated from royal looms established by the Wadiyar Dynasty. These Sarees come with heavy gold zari work, making them a perfect clothing item to wear during main occasions and festivals.
- Iikal Sarees
These sarees originate from the Bagalkot district. It is an ancient weave. One defining feature of it is the Tope Teni technique. It is an 8th-century method where the cotton body and silk pallu are joined together by hand. They are highly recognised for their contrasting borders and geometric patterns.
- Molakalmuru silk
Chitradurga district is the origin place of the saree type. The saree is known for its intricate motifs. It contains designs like lotus, peacock and coins.
- Kasuti Embroidery
It is not a weave but intricate signature hand embroidery. The embroidery is used heavily on silk or cotton garments. Artists used to stitch geometric or mythological patterns like chariots without the use of a frame.
- Kodava attire
In the Coorg area, there is a distinct saree draping culture. The saree’s draping style is unique, with the pleats tucked at the back and the end piece brought forward. It is pinned over the right shoulder.

Men’s wear represents the priority of functionality and comfort.
- Panche and Kurta
Panche is the lower garment of men. It is a long and unstitched cloth which is quite similar to a Dhoti. Generally, it is produced with silk and cotton fabrics. It is usually available in white or cream colour and worn like a dhoti.
- Angavastram
Men drape a Shalya across their shoulders. It is a rectangular cloth made up of matching silk and cotton.
- Mysore Peta
It is a headgear worn by the Men of Karnataka. It originated from the courts of the Mysore kingdom. Generally, it is produced with rich silk and decorated with gold lace. It is also considered a prestige symbol, and those in positions wear it. Also, grooms wear a Mysore Peta.
