The Uppal Stadium is a crucial cricket venue in Hyderabad, Telangana. The venue is situated in the eastern suburb of Uppal. The playground complex has a maximum capacity of 55k. History of Uppal Stadium!
Previously, Hyderabad’s international cricket matches used to be hosted at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium. But the state sports body controlled the property for that cricket ground and not its Cricket Board itself. Thereby, the Hyderabad Cricket Association has restricted control over it.
To address the need for a big ground and overcome the issue or constraints, the board secured 16 acres of land in Uppal. They started construction in 2003. Initially, it was named Vishakha International Cricket Stadium. Later, it was renamed by the state government to honor Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. For a period of time, the renaming became a matter of controversy. The facility has rapidly evolved into a top-tier international standard Arena.
